New All Blacks head coach Dave Rennie has named his first extended training squad of 2026, with 38 players called in for a pre-season camp in late May. Rennie emphasized that selection is strictly form-based, with no automatic jerseys guaranteed. The camp will focus on physical conditioning, tactical alignment, and building team culture before the Nations Championship begins on 4 July in Christchurch.

Recent standout performers from Super Rugby Pacific Round 6 have earned strong consideration. Ruben Love’s impressive return for the Hurricanes, Cortez Ratima’s sharp play for the Chiefs, and several young forwards showing physical dominance have caught the eye. Rennie has made it clear he wants players who are “desperate to wear the black jersey” every single week.
