In addition, loose forward Shannon Frizell rejoins the national side after returning from Japan and re-signing with New Zealand Rugby. However, regular captain Ardie Savea misses the series due to a shoulder injury.

Codie Taylor takes over the captaincy after previously leading the team during their fourth Test against South Africa in Baltimore. Consequently, his leadership brings vital stability to the forward pack. Meanwhile, uncapped fly-half Josh Jacomb earns his place in the Test environment after impressive franchise performances.
